comparing primers

If a load calls for a particular primer, is there any way to compare primers to find another primer that will be compatable with the one in the load spec?

I have learned.......

Since I always (as in "no exception") work upward I just make sure the type is the same, like small pistol or large pistol magnum.

Primers, even of the same type, can change pressure.

veteran, if you're looking for a manufacturer cross reference chart, here is a good online one: http://www.handloads.com/misc/primers.asp

As WESHOOT2 said and implied, primers, even of the same type, have different characteristics. Whenever you change any component when reloading, be sure to lower your powder charge a little (10% is suggested*) and start working up. For this reason it is usually a good practice to find a primer you like in each size and stick with it.

[* Note: some powders (e.g., WW296 & H110) shouldn't be downloaded very much. Your load manuals will indicate which powders shouldn't be downloaded.]
