winchester mod 63

I just picked a mod 63 for a good price. The bluing is almost 100%. It's the first run of the 63s. Someone told me that the gun is the first auto loader 22lr. Is that true?

I come to the gun gods for more info on this gun. Some history on this old gun would much be appreciated. Even a story as a youth using a 63.

Thanks
