reinstalling barrel back into stock question
when putting the barreled action back into the Marlin 917v wooden stock there is quite a bit of play forward and backward of the action in the stock. should I stand the stock resting on it's butt plate and pull the action down as far as it will go before tightening the lug and action screws just like with a centerfire? also, any ballpark figures in inch pounds of torque for the action screws? I know the lug screw bears directly on the wood and should be tightened with caution. Thanks!
