Help Dating A S&W 39?

I recently had the good fortune to add a S&W Model 39 to the household. Had one years ago, a nickel 39-2, and foolishly let it get away from me. The new ine is an early blued alloy 39-dash-nuthin', with the long extractor. It's a touch better'n 98%, with 2 original mags, and I got it for a real decent price. After a couple hundred rounds of various commercial and hand-made ammo, I declare it every bit the gun my first one was. This one is never going away.

Serial number is 82xxx. Can anybody give me the year of manufacture? I know they were built from '54-'81, but I don't think they sold very well the first few years, I'm just guessing this is a mid-late fifties vintage, just like me, but I'd kinda like to know.

Thanks. I'm...

Ask S&W

Drop S&W a e-mail with the serial number and they will tell you.

Dating a single white 39 year old? Female, I hope. How hard can that be?
