Swedged bullets, will they lead your bore?
A friend gave me some 9mm hollow point swedged bullets that have a dry lube on them with no lube groove. He told me I shouldn't shoot them because they will lead my bore, as they are pure lead, any truth to that? I don't want to melt them down if I can use them.

I use swaged bullets at low velocities for target/plinking work. Drive them at about 850 fps and you'll be fine.
Of course, every barrel is different and yours might be fine at a higher velocity. The only way to find out is to load and shoot them. |

I've had very good luck with swaged bullets over the years. keep the speed to 900 fps or so and they will shoot fine as long as your bore is reasonably smooth.
Use a good copper solvent ahead of time to make sure there's no copper fouling in your bore, it tends to make leading worse. |

I have tried several companies’ swaged bullets but never found them to be that accurate in 44 special.
I had much better luck with Penn. And they are hard enough to push much faster. http://www.pennbullets.com/calibers.html |
