Powders
Since the beginning of the year I've been accumulating some powder as my LGS gets it. So far I've got:
2 lbs IMR 4350 2 lbs Varget 1 1/3 lbs IMR 4895 1 lb Hybrid 100V 3/4 lb H4350 I reload 25-06, 270, and 223. I've loaded 24.5 grains 4895 and 55gr Hornady FMJBT for my AR. Decent groups for iron sights that go bang. I was loading IMR 4831 in my 270 but ran out. Any suggestions where to play next? |

You have done better than most. Check the Internet cites often and be prepared to buy a lot to spread the haz mat fee.

Looks real good to me too, and I'd say you have it covered really well. I wouldn't replace the IMR-4831 though.

I rather like 4831, H or IMR. What's not to like?

I love IMR-4831 too. I use it in the big Magnums with excellent results. It just isn't the best powder to use in the cartridges that the OP listed. For a slow powder, the IMR-4350 should have him covered just fine.

I'd dig up some Sierra bullets and work up some accuracy loads for the AR with Varget. Try 55 grain SBT's or 50 grain BlitzKings, or if you find some, 52 Grain Hornady A-Max's.
I've been having fun with that, but I only have H335 and Benchmark, I can't for the life of me get ahold of any Varget. |

Powder preferences are kinda like other opinions---we all have our opinions and some differ with others.
Personally, I think IMR 4831 is one of, if not the best powder, for 25-06 using 100 gr. BT bullets, and 270 using Hornady 130 gr. SST. In my humble opinion. |

Alright, now you guys have me thinking about trying some 4831 in the .25-06s, even though I have them driving tacks with the 4350. It's not like I need much coaxing to try a new powder for a great load.

Addictive hobby, isn't it?
I am processing what to do about another varmint rifle. (Like I get to shoot the ones I have enough---but hey!) A different caliber is always a time consuming often frustrating project. New dies, try several different bullets and powders, put more jugs of powder on the shelf that probably won't get consumed, etc etc. Fun stuff. If only the components would come back into stock. |

I ended up loading some hornady 117 gr sst's on top 45 and 45.5 grains IMR 4350 to start with for the 25-06. Hopefully I'll shoot those Friday and see.

If looking for just a target powder in 270, you might try TAC which is not one of the loads normaly used for 30-06 type cases (even Ramshot recommends different powder as a first choice)
We use it in 223 but are getting low on the 4350 and 4831 and I found a load for it in the Sierra manual for the 168 gr 30-06 I shoot (target only these days) I am running it on the low end as the desire is just for an accurate load that is easy on the gun (Mil surplus so don't want to shoot out the barrel). It shoots nicely (gentle) and its accurate as 4350 and can run around 10 gr less for the lowest load. Have enough to last a while but likely to keep using it. Bonus is it meters nicely as well so not as much trickle charging. Its possible downside is possible poor ignition though I have not see that. I do use military brass so it compensate a couple of grains equivalent as well s magnum primers though I may have to move to non magnums once those are gone (components continue to be really hard to get hereand lucky I had or was given stuff. |

I would play with Varget for the .223...
I could never get H335 to shoot despite it being among the "best"...and Varget always gave me the tightest groups, it's definitely worth trying especially with the heavier bullets. And here in FL, being temp stable is a big plus as well.

This is what works real nice for me and my rilfe.
25-06 Single shot Ground hogs at 300 - 400 yards 85 gr Nolser Ballistic Tip - Boat Tail RL-19 at 53.3grains (max 57 grains starting at 53 grains. Bullet is touching the lands. CCI large primers & Winchester large primers Very accurate load when shot in my rifle. Worked out of Nosler Reloading guide #6 @ increasing the powder charge did not improve accuracy with my set up. |

A lot of people been talking good at RL 19. I'll definitely grab some when I can.
