I.N.A. 5 shot .38 special revolver.

Hi, I am new to this forum and I need some info on a 38 special revolver. It is a double acton 5 shot .38 special revolver that has checkered hard wood grips and a 4" barrel. I need any info(i.e.current manfacture,framestyle size,will it accept .357 mag etc.) On the left side of the revolver it has a engraved tiger.And on the right side of the revolver it reads "I.N.A. made in brazll".And on the right side of the barrel it reads ".38 special".On both sides of the grips it reads "INA ind nac de armas brasil".On the very bottom of the grips it has the numbers "030126".And on the inside of the frame it has the numbers "575" and a 9 below the last 5. Again any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Michael

Probably a Taurus or a Rossi. I don't know much about revolvers, but I do know that Taurus and Rossi are made in Brazil!

PASS! It is a POJ. It WILL NOT accept 357 Magnums, don't even try it. I believe these were a sort of effort to make a snub 38 Special. I would not trust one anymore than I would a $10.00 Rohm.

Well my father bought the gun about 35 years ago for 39.95 at the local grocery store and i was just trying to find some info on it.

They come in very light weight models. Small, five shot. I would recommend a internal hammer model.

I personally have a 642 model, which is a .38 special + P model...sort of like a baby .357 round.

The "J" frame series also has .357 and .38 specials.

The area of concern is the internals and springs. They had a tendency to get out of time, freewheel and they are not able to withstand modern +P loads. I suggest shopping for used M&P S&Ws or Ruger GP-100s. Either are high quality revolvers and should be priced about $300.00. A fair cheap revolver would be the Commanche, they do need some rough spots smoothed though. A nice and lower priced used 5 shot revolver I can suggest is the M85 Taurus 38 Special, used ones run about $199.00. THE small 357 Magnum suggestion would be the Ruger SP-101.

12 IS more than 10! 6 in the cylinder and 6 in a speedstrip. Bianchi speedstrips conceal easily.

Hi,

This is a very popular revolver here in Brazil.

I.N.A. means Industria Nacional de Armas (National Arms Industry) and it became famous in the 60' for producing for the police, the INA Sub Machine Gun, in .45 ACP, that was a clone of the Madsen. (Very reliable, btw).

They tried to make a revolver, with a reasonable price to the police, so they entered the revolver business. Their products were not well accepted, by the force, specially the .38's.

Since we only had Taurus and Rossi, and imported revolvers were to expensive, the INAs, especially the .32, became very popular among security guards (not police) and civilians, that wanted to have a gun in house for an emergency, but never uses it... , or they were sold as "Saturday Night Specials" (we don't use the expression here, but we had he guns...

)

The sad news are that here in Brazil, they are abundandt, and don't really worth something and DON'T EVEN TRY .357S ON IT !!! Not even +P...

B.A.D. this post is 10 years old dude, as for that piece of junk somebody gave you take it to the local welding shop, weld the cylinder shut and throw it away. take $300-400 go to a pawn shop and buy a used Ruger or S&W.

For all you guys who give opinions, but have no idea what you're talking about: The INA Tiger guns were slightly crude, but they were all steel guns of about the same quality of Rossis of the same era.
