wad ? cap and ball

i am baffled as to why wads for cap and balls are so expensive, so following advise from other shooters, i located a hollow punch at Harbor Freight which is 7/16 ID. or .4375. Would this size wad work in the Ruger Old army?

Howdy birdshot.
See this thread which shows how ClemBert increased the diameter of the same punches to .455 for making wads:

Everything written is so linear that it seems to make us all go around in circles to find anything that we need.
It's even time consuming to locate anything in a store without walking up and down aisles and around in circles, especially those building supply stores!
