help with indentifying a gun

this pistol has a 3 1/2 inch barrel.5mmm hole in the barrel.There is a marking on the plate near the barrel that reads P F and there is some insignia just above it.It has a flip down trigger,and a compartment on the bottom of the grip that would hold firing caps.There is also a gold colored shield on the back round area of the grip.

This is the sort of thing that's really going to need a picture to identify, but the basic description sounds like a French, Spanish, or Belgian "velo-dog" revolver.

OK, the image shows a muzzle-loading percussion single-shot pistol (probably Belgian, so it should have the appropriate proofs), of the type that was used for either self-defence or target shooting. This type of pistol survived well into the cartridge era as "saloon pistols", for indoor target shooting. I doubt it would be worth much in any event, but if you can get a picture of the proof marks, it would help to date it.
