cutting 870 magazine tube for a sbs
hey guys! if i wanted to make my own serbu shorty,how would i cut down the mag tube,along with the spring,and how would i recap it? i want a 7" barrel,and i also need to modify the action bars too.i appreciate any feedback you guys could offer.

As you are already well aware, cutting the 870's mag tube presents several challenges as to how to fit-out the end. May I suggest that you don't alter the factory end. Instead, cut the tube at the receiver end. This will require some work since the tube is sweated into the receiver. An alternate would be to section the tube and weld the end back on. Considering the effort required to successfully execute the cuts, welding and finishing, I'd opt for removing the tube from the receiver. It will give you a much tidier finished product.

Between the work and paperwork, it might be easier to just get the Serbu, unless you are a machinist with access to all the right equipment

If you have a TIG welder it is not that big of a deal. Cut just past the threads then for the total end length and turn an aluminum plug that fits inside to line them up and weld.
