Worked Up a Couple of 9mm Loads Today

I worked up some loads for my new 9mm today. I used HS-6 and Hornady HP/XTP bullets in both 115gr and 124 gr and chronographed the results.

Here is the data:

Powder wt: 6.4grn
Bullet: 115 grn
COAL: 1.125
Ave Velocity: 1186

Powder wt: 6.4grn
Bullet: 124 grn
COAL: 1.125
Ave Velocity: 1186

Powder wt: 6.6grn
Bullet: 115 grn
COAL: 1.125
Ave Velocity: 1166

Powder wt: 6.6grn
Bullet: 115 grn
COAL: 1.125
Ave Velocity: 1200

I noticed that the velocity didn't drop when going up in weight from 115 to 124 grns and in fact the velocity of the 124gr actually increased over that of the 115gr when upping the charge to 6.6grns. Do these results seem on par with what others have been getting? I was shooting these in a SA XD9 with 5" barrel. Also I did notice some soot on the empty casings when using 6.4 grs with the 115 grn bullets.

I've noticed that years ago as well, and it became my new powder for 124. (Now I use power pistol.)
I also tend to load them a bit shorter that the manual, and found I could even load them a touch hot AND a tiny bit short without getting pressure signs, using HS-6.
(Not as short as you're loading them, but a tiny bit hotter.)
Was the only way I could make this load burn fairly clean, but I liked the accuracy and consisitancy. (Loaded long and stock, the case and my barrel had brown gunk in it.)
Also they fit in my short chambered CZ.
Just remember, when bullet weight goes up, so does pressure.
And the 124 bullets are technically being seated deeper than the 115s, making the pressure higher, as well as the mass being more...
If you're going to use any more powder with the 124 grain bullet, I'd seat it longer, as a safety precaution.
