this may be a stupid question....but.... can a sks w/ a non-removeable magazine be modified to accept ak mags?? i know they make a magazine for these weapons, but to say they are cumbersome would be an understatement.
if this has been discussed before, just tell me & i'll search for it. i don't have time right now. thanks.........longhair ------------------ fiat justitia |

It can certainly be done, but be careful, it may be illegal. If you live in the People's Republik of Kalifornia, don't do it, it's a crime!
A SKS with a detachable magazine, regardless of whether it was manufactured as such, is illegal and considered an assault weapon. However, you can legally attach a factory 20rnd fixed magazine. I believe that AK type 30rnd magazines that are permanently attached are also legal. Asinine, but there you have it. [This message has been edited by Destructo6 (edited April 22, 1999).] |

Not just in CA. I think that conversion may be illegal all over, at least for post-ban SKS.

I've seen a SKS with welded on 75 rd Chinese
drum, some metal was tacked on mag to fit, but mag works excellent, easy to load with back plate off, fill and leave loaded till ya want to shoot, just crank the spring up the number of times mag says to, you can release spring tension too, its a mag I use on my NHM-91 and leave loaded all the time, till cleaning |
