Illinois Transfer
My question as a buyer of a FTF gun transaction, do I need to record the FOID card of the seller?
In Illinois code it says that FTF is only allowed by FOID card owners and as the buyer I must show and have my info recorded by the seller. But do I need to see the FOID card of the seller and record his information? It does not say that, but what if theirs is expired etc.? Anyone with experience transferring firearms in Illinois? My card is new and perfectly valid and I have a Chicago Firearms Permit and have my guns registered with the City of Chicago. |

All you need to know is on the back of your FOID.

IMHO, both parties need to be diligent. Whether buying or selling, I'd recommend, at minimum the following, with two (2) copies reviewed by both parties, then with each receiving a copy.
Bill of Sale / Transfer of Ownership Date Description Serial Number Other/Accessories Purchased By: Name Address FOID # FOID Expiration Date DOB Sold By: Name Address FOID # FOID Expiration Date DOB _______________________________________ Signature - Purchased By Date ________________________________________ Signature - Sold By Date If you are the seller, you may also want to add verbiage along the lines of... "The above parties acknowledge that the properties being purchased are purchased As Is”. No warranty is expressed by the Seller." If either party is unwilling to provide the above, I don't complete the transaction. But that's just me. |
