I knew this wold get more atention here than on the "sales" forum. I'm thinking about making an order from "High tech" ammunition, and their surplus 4895 powder is $64 per 8 lb container (plus shipping and hazmat). If we buy four 8lb kegs, they pay the hazmat fee. I have two kegs spoken for, I just need two more.

Frontsight.

If you want you can call Powder Valley Reloading here in KS. They carry just about everything you can want. don't know if they'd be cheaper than the other place but since it's a 1-800 it is'nt costing you anything. Their # is 1-800-227-4299. I have used them for years with no problem. Just my .02 worth.

Best wishes Best luck Poacher.

Poacher has a good idea. I just got 8 lbs of H108 at the Tulsa show for $50. Good deals! sundog

Powder Valley does indeed have a great deal on H108 and 2200 (both $50 for a keg) but s/h and the Hazmat get it to $72 for an 8lb keg. That sends me back to my original search, fellow buyers who want 4895 at $68 delivered.

Frontsight,

I haven't ever tried 4895 and haven't looked in my loading manuals yet. Is it good for 30-30 Win, .308 Win or .243 Win?

I pretty surprised that it's not in your manuals...it's in my Sierra, Speer, and Lyman manuals. It is used for everything from .223 to at least .30-06...maybe more. The manuals call it "possibly the most versatile rifle powder in existance" I am buying it specifically for two .308 rifles. I don't have a book in front of me, but I have one in the car. I'll let you know about .243 and .30-30 in about 2 hours. I have decided that I'll probably buy two kegs, so I only have to get one more spoken for (and paid for) to make the order.

OK! I'm a little late...sorry! I checked the data, and 4895 will work with all listed .30-30 loads, and will work with all but the 107 gr. .243 (according to Sierra). So, are you in?

Frontsight!, is that IMR 4895? If it is, and if I'm not too late, I believe I'll take a keg of it. Please let me know the details.

From my understanding surplus 4895 burns more like IMR 4064. Still a good all around powder. YMMV

Second on the Hi-Tec boys... They're shooters (one of 'em rents MGs at KCR every year), and they do good powder. I've been very satisfied with everything I've gotten from 'em.
