Making a light load for practice .327 Fed Mag

These are noob questions. I want to make a light load in a .327 federal magnum case for practicing. I load Speer 98 gr. HBWCs in .32 H&R Mag and I would like to use the same bullet in the .327 and have the recoil be similar. The cases are identical except for the increased length of the .327. There is no load data in my .327 charge table for this bullet, so is it as simple as just putting the same primer, charge and bullet into the longer case? What would be the effect of changing the primer to the magnum primer used in full strength .327 loads? It seems logical to me that I can ignore the starting loads for the .327 and use the much weaker loads of the .32 H&R and expect performance similar to the .32 H&R, but maybe I would actually have to add more or less powder to get the same recoil.

Larger case capacity will reduce velocities. You can see this by looking up .45 auto and .45 Colt loading data, using the same powder, the large .45 Colt case needs more powder to achieve the same velocity with a similar bullet than the .45 auto case does.

I'm a 327 fan and according to Midway, 327 brass is discontinued by Fedral, the only major manufacturer to offer it. Starline says it will run 327 again, but are currently swamped making more popular calibers. Just load the 32 H&R brass. I load 327 loads in starline 32 H&R brass with total satisfaction.

You put full strength 327 Federal Mag loads in shorter cases? I'm getting .327 brass from the American Eagle factory ammo. I'm hoping the 100 gr. Speer Gold Dot ammo will come back when the market stabilizes. In the meantime, I'm reloading both 327 and 32 brass for practice ammo.

I would load in the parameters of the case. 32 H&R Mag cases are under rated for 327 Fed Mag pressures.

I had not heard this. That is disconcerting.
Since the 327 is their caliber. I guess my wish for a carbine in 327 will go unfulfilled.

If you place a backorder with Starline now, they will get their quota of demand sooner and do another run of .327 sooner. At least that's how I read their policy on their website. I ordered 1000.

I tried making light loads in the .327 brass with CCI 550 primers and an increase in the powder, but nowhere near the recommended starting loads. I used one scoop with the .3cc Lee dipper, just to see if I could make it that easy. The results were enlightening.

3.1 grs of W231 is not a good load. The case exteriors were sooty. This makes sense because the brass is thicker and would not expand as readily as the .32 H&R mag brass. The W231 also made the barrel look like a trashy alley.

But 3.5 gr of Titegroup looks like a good load. More recoil (as expected), but a cleaner burn with no soot on the cases. Two of the primers from that group have a little soot around them. I either overcrimped (doesn't seem likely) or the pockets or primers were just a poor fit. The amount of recoil with this load was good. It felt a little lighter than a .38 in a J-frame. I might go with this load for practice.

Starline is shipping 327 federal brass. I ordered mine 3 weeks ago and just received 500 bright shiny cases. Also received 200 pcs of Federal from Graf & sons. It's out there but you have to shake the trees to find it.
