Canik TP9 getting down and dirty during testing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh1YcWv6o2Q

Today, October 10, 2014 I took my newly acquired Canik TP9 to the range to put it through the paces of real world shooting ... see above link to the video on youtube ... and it came out with flying colors, a proud gun shorting like a champion...

The trigger is hard but didn't hinder me shooting accurately with it from 7 to 100 yards (not the limitations some have put on it at 25 yards) and it shoot like a gun twice the price or more. I was outshooting my buddy with his custom Sig, but again, I outshot myself when I used his Sig.

Nice gun, shoots nice, and a lot of gun for a little price!!!

Dang WildBill you didn't waste much time getting that thing to the range. I enjoyed the review, glad to know a little bit more about a pistol I was curious about. Seemed to shoot pretty well. How was the ergos? Thanks for your time, effort and ammo.

The grip to hand fit was wonderful. The feel was solid and the control during firing and recoil very good. The sights worked well for me, and were right on out of the box ... for me at least. The magazines are wonderful, fit nice, and of high quality ... I got three with my gun. The trigger is heavy, but workable, as you can see in the video but, for beginners it may be difficult to shoot well for some. Cost vs. benefit it is a great deal for someone without the will or the cash to buy a more expensive gun for defending themselves out and about or at home. This will be my trunk gun, in case I need more help in a bad situation.

Ok that's good to hear. I have big hands and a lot of guns I like everything about just don't fit my hands. Hopefully I can find one to fondle here soon. Thanks again.

Nice shooting
The gun shoots well! Most reviews I have seen have it shooting low and to the left but, my own TP9 did not. If you have good trigger control and a heavy trigger won't deter your shooting ... and i don't mean super heavy, as a DA revolver is as heavy and I shoot all day with my wheel guns ... this is a very good deal.

Nice.

I was just looking at one today but obviously the kid at the counter wanted to show me everything else.

They're on sale here for $299.99. It's really tempting.

Yes it is! It is a nice shooting pistol. The trigger is a little heavy but you won't notice during combat style shooting, only target shooting. It is a blast, and makes a nice house or trunk gun without a lot of investment in it in case it comes up missing...

The lady of the house loves shooting it as well, and she is recoil sensitive. She is waiting for her Walther CCP to arrive...

Awesome gun for that kind of money

I suppose there is enough aftermarket to address you trigger complaints.

I had one, and sold it for a Walther P99 (the TP-9 copies the P99)...

My complaint was the trigger. Is there a way to lighten up the trigger? If so, I would buy another.

Yep, aware of the coming SA only version. However, that does not tell me if the SA version will have the same heavy SA trigger as the current TP-9s.

The value is the point, but you don't get a Ferrari for a Chevy price, so something has to give. All that bang for the buck is a good deal. Most folks buy them for defensive and fun purposes, and the trigger isn't heavy enough to prevent that purpose whatsoever. I went to the local gun store last week and tried a PPQ out and that trigger ... that one only as far as I know ... had a terrible trigger with more grit than I expected from the reputation of that pistol. So no gun is perfect, and I am sure some TP9 pistols are better than others.

It's a bit boring at first, but towards the end you start hearing Canik's marketing strategy. They're not coming into the US market in a half effort, this is a full blown attack aimed at what they know is a profitable market. They seem to understand the importance that word of mouth, especially YouTube and forums, has in this current market. The fact that they already incorporated changes into their pistol from user input so quickly is honestly impressive. Value wise I don't know anything that can beat them. They know the market they want, their price is aggressive for the explicit purpose of competition with the big makers in the US already (they make note of the success of the XD with Springfield Armory), and their product seems decent. I expect to see more of them.

It's not uncommon for the PPQ and P99 to have gritty triggers when new. They will smooth out to butter within the first 250 rounds or so.

You know, I have never understood this attitude.
If the antis need any more ammo, you are handing it to them by the crate full.

Take a look in the mirror---you are a big part of the problem.

I am so, so happy to see that there are no forward slide serrations. Usually I'm not an early adopter of anything, but this pistol is most appealing.

my TP9 had failures to return to battery straight from the box, about 35 out of 50 failed to return to battery... it's about to go back to century... so far, this is the only instance of this I've found so... there's that.

I had one of these that I got last summer. very very good value.

At first I did not think it shot all that well. After dry firing it a few hundred or more times. The trigger loosened up a bit. Then i tried the different hand grips to find what suited me best.

Finally ended up getting it and my self working together well enough.
My 1st striker pistol.

My feelings were ( I like it but nothing to write home about)

Then I let my son try it out.
He took to that gun like a duck to water. Made my shooting look like poop.
And not just a little bit ether. Really bad....

Guess who owns the gun now? Yup he talked me right out of it.

That's a cool gun. I've lusted after guns like the PPQ and the VP9, but I've also sort of felt like a duty sized 9mm is best suited to being thrown in the glove-box of a car. And I just can't justify plunking down $6 -700 for a gun that could get stolen relatively easily.

In that role, the TP9 is pretty compelling.
