Scope on a 22/45
I am awaiting the arrival of my permits to buy a 460xvr which will be a scoped hunting rig. In the mean time I want to mount a scope on my 22/45 to get used to shooting optics in a handgun. Anyone suggest a inexpensive 2x or 4x small scope. I dont want anything to clumsy on the small pistol. I havent been able to find any cheaper ones that look like they would work. Cheaper in this case is under $100 with rings.

The NcSTAR pistol scopes are the only ones I know of in that price range. They are not greatest but also not bad, it's optics and you really do get what you pay for.

Check CDNN, Natchez Shooters Supply, and The Sportsmans Guide.
Be aware that you probably need rimfire rings made for a 3/8" dovetail. I believe all of those sources sell affordable scopes designed specifically for rimfires, that include the correct rings for a 3/8" dovetailed receiver. |

I've had really good luck with the NcStars on small bore pistols and even some large bore Contenders (30-30AI, 444 Marlin) but the rings that come with them are total trash. Still if you replace the rings with decent rings you'll still be under a C note.

2X handgun scopes
In that price range you should be able to buy a 2X Simmons or a 2X Barska. If you look around, there are usually pretty good deals on used scopes for about what you want to spend or just a little more. I have seen Burris and Leupold (M8) 2X and 4X pistol scopes sell for $150 and less.
Also you should be able to find used Pentax, Bushnell and Nikon scopes priced between $100 and $150. In my opinion you would be a lot better off to buy a better used scope than a new lesser quality scope. |

I've been burned buying used scopes more often than any other item. Still there's deals to be had. Leupy and Burris are both pretty good at repairing old scopes. I love the old Japanese tasco glass as well as the weaver and even the red field stuff. I've got a drawer full of glass now just looking for pistols

22/45 has a rail in the box and in this case its only a 22 so I dont think holding center should be an issue. I will probably get a cheepy like a barska or a ncstar. When my 460XVR comes in I am thinking Leopold FX-II or VX-III. I hear that 460 has a habbit of trashing scopes.

I had good results with an old German 1.3 power Bushnell. It came with rings.
Maybe the are still out there on GB or Ebay. |
