Buffalo Bore and Underwood .357 Ammo
The muzzle velocity (125g) on these rounds is advertised at 1600 fps or better. Are these suckers really moving that fast or is the ballistic info inflated?
Could I really expect to get 1600 fps out of my 6" GP100 with these rounds? |

Buffalo Bore lists chronograph info for each round, so yes if that is what is says. From what I have seen Underwood delivers as well and at times, more than advertised. Actually, you will get more according to Buffalo Bore.
"6 inch Ruger GP 100 Item 19D/20-125gr. Jacketed Hollow Point = 1707 fps" You can take the Buffalo Bore numbers to the bank so you would be north of 1,700 fps - Crazy fast Last edited by jmortimer; November 11, 2012 at 10:12 PM. |

Don't buy Underwood. LOL
Buy the BB, that means I get more Underwood rounds sooner.
Good luck. |

I would definitely choose Underwood's ammo for self defense as they use Gold Dots. Buffalo Bore uses Montana Gold bullets, which are not nearly as good. I do however carry the Buffalo Bore 180 grain hard cast rounds as my camping/hiking load.

I haven't shot BB's or underwoods 125gr .357 load over my chronograph, but I have shot a bunch of their .380, .40, .45 and 9mm. I have found that BB's numbers to be spot on in all of my pistols. Underwood's numbers were within 25-30fps IIRC. I carry Underwoods +P 230gr gold dot loading in my SIG P220 and BB's 100gr +P hard cast .380 in my Beretta 84B.

They are very good I have a review here of me shooting them through a 6 inch Coonan Classic (357 magnum 1911). I was actually getting about 1800 FPS (no cylinder gap)
My review is here along with pictures: http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=495750 buffalo bore uses gold dots. For a while they tried the Montana Gold but as stated above they did not perform as well in the higher velocity ammo.

Shot placement is everything! I would rather take a round of 50BMG to the foot than a 22short to the base of the skull. all 26 of my guns are 45/70 govt, 357 mag, 22 or 12 ga... I believe in keeping it simple. Wish my wife did as well... Last edited by Deja vu; November 14, 2012 at 11:29 PM. |
