AR-10 Loads
Hello all,
Well, my next gun purchase is going to be an AR-10 style rifle. Specifically the Sig Sauer 716 Patrol (whenever it hits the market). I already reload .308 for my bolt gun, but looking for a few pet loads, tips/tricks, etc on loading for a .308 AR I also load .223 for my AR-15, and .30-06 for my M1 Garand so i'm familiar with the semi-auto aspect of it. Here is what i'm thinking of as a start: Hornady 150 Gr FMJ-BT and Hornady 168 Gr BTHP Match Mix of Federal, PMC and similar commercial brass Varget CCI large rifle primers rounds loaded to length of a Magpul 308 Pmag Thanks all

Sounds good to me! I'm a fan of the Varget, and maybe try some Sierra Match Kings also besides the Hornady.

That's going to be a little hard to help you with. But any 7.62x51 Nato load should do fine. Personally I would start with just a slightly lighter bullet weight, 135 grain and go up from there after you get your first results. Nice looking gun by the way.
1:10 twist on a 16 inch barrel should stabilize the heavier bullets, but I would just start light and work my way up on a new gun. Maybe some of our friends that load for an AR10 can help you out better here. Jim

With WW brass we use 168 gr Nosler Competitions and 45 gr Varget. That is not the start load,so you will want to work up to it.
For hunting, the Ballistic Tip and Accubond at 165 gr shoot about the same. I also tried the 155 MK's with good results. |
