Accurate Data 85 powder

Anyone using this stuff? I bought 8 lbs of it to try in my 270 Win. since I like to shoot my 270, and the price was right - 69.99/8lbs. I've only tested a few loads, but I'm not seeing very good consistancy with it velocity-wise. The loads I tried were using 130gr Remington bullets, Remington 9 1/2 primers, and neck-sized R-P cases.
  1. 54.0gr 2737 average 77.84 ES 34.68 SD
  2. 55.0gr 2720 average 67.34 ES 29.89 SD
  3. 56.0gr 2785 average 83.68 ES 39.84 SD
  4. 57.0gr 2948 average 103.2 ES 37.52 SD

Usually when I'm working up a load, the SD will start high, and drop with each increase in charge weight. Usually down to the low teens, or maybe into the single digits if I'm lucky. Does this stuff need a magnum primer to get it going? It is a true sperical powder (looks like very small shot). I have some loads with WLRM primers for the next trip to the range.

Data 85 and 30-06

I'm also trying to find others who have used this powder. I worked up to 61 gr with 168 gr HPBT bullet in 30-06 at 2896 fps. This is the fastest load I have ever been able to achieve with 165/168 gr bullets. Very accurate too. I'm trying to find a relative burn rate to see how this sould do in a .243 Win. I also loaded 59 gr in .270 Win with 130 gr. bullet at 3028 fps. All loads chronographed. I figure it is close to 4831 but can't find much info on it.

Accurate's load page for "85" powder:

Note their comment:

Quote:
This powder is very close to Ramshot HUNTER®.
Therefore HUNTER® data can be used as is for any caliber as listed in our loadguide.

What that tells me is that Accurate 85 most likely IS bulk-grade Ramshot Hunter.

I bought a jug of it a few years ago. I fell in love with DP-86 in my 6.5 Swedes, so I though DP-85 would be a good choice for my 300 WSM as it is similar to Ramshot Hunter. Not so in my rifles. It has been a real disappointment, I tried it in several cartridges with poor to very poor results. I use it for fireforming. If I have nothing to fireform, it sits in the corner and gathers dust.
