Ishapore 308 vs SMLE

Will a bolt from an SMLE #1 mk3 fit an ishapore 308 and work if I change to a 308 extractor? Thanks!

With the usual caveats about headspace and the possible need for some fitting, the answer is yes.

One thing, though. All reports are that the 2A rifle was made with better steel than the SMLE, and that would apply to the bolt as well as the receiver, so you should keep a close check on headspace if you make a swap like that, as the lugs might batter more than they would with the right bolt.

I also advise not using commercial .308 ammo in that rifle; stick to 7.62 NATO specs.

Chances are that you can get it to fit. However the steel in the bolt will not be up to the 2a standards.

ishapore

I wondered about the bolt, although the bolt body is listed as the same number in gunparts, as the #1mk3. I knew the rec. was different, just didn't know if the bolt was better steel or not.
