Giving away a Ruger pistol this weekend,,,
One of the young men who works at my local watering hole,,,
Has been trying to save up for a .22 pistol for quite some time now,,, I've taken him to my range many times and he's completely hooked on shooting. Last Christmas his grandfather gave him a very nice scoped Savage 93 rifle,,, Unfortunately (for plinking purposes) it was a .22 Magnum,,, Ammunition is a bit high for playing at the range. Also it seems my friend has no luck at all when it comes to buying a pistol,,, Right after Christmas he had over $300.00 saved up for a gun,,, Three days before we were going shopping his car died,,, A new computer chip took all of his money. So he had again saved up some cash (he works almost full-time),,, We were starting to talk about a handgun again,,, Then his dog got wounded in a dogfight,,, The vet took all of his gun money. He's graduating this Saturday with a B.S. from Oklahoma State University,,, And he was accepted into the Graduate College so he's staying put,,, Another three years here getting his Master's Degree. I considered fronting him the price of a gun on my unused credit card,,, But then I got to thinking that wouldn't be a good idea at all,,, Having a debt to pay off is no way to start grad school. Way back when I took up guns and shooting again,,, One of the first pistols I bought was this Ruger 22/45 MK-III. I made the "Tanker" style holster for it,,, The gun is a real dandy and shoots very well indeed,,, But I have since purchased other pistols that I enjoy shooting much more. I've made the decision to box up this little slab-side beauty,,, And gift it to my friend as a graduation present. The little gun (which I named Darcy) was meant to be utilized,,, It's been sitting in my cabinet gathering dust for too long. The pistol, 3 mags, cleaning kit, a range bag, and a bulk pack of ammo,,, Should get him out to the shooting range with a smile on his face. Aarond P.S. Darcy is the ancient Irish/Gaelic word for "dark". .

Very generous of you! Now you have the perfect excuse to replace it with that new Ruger 22/45 Lite..

A wonderful gift. It's hard to beat the fun of a .22 pistol!

Hello Rampant_Colt,,,
Quote:
Last November I bought a pair of 5.5" slab-side 22/45's,,, I bought the stainless steel versions with the new wood grip panels. They are my modern dueling pistols. I named the new pistols Equitas and Veritas,,, After the Roman goddesses of Truth and Justice. They are why Darcy hasn't been getting any range time lately. One thing I didn't mention,,, I'll offer him another option if he would rather,,, I have a Mossberg 702 Plinkster .22 rifle he can have instead,,, It's another gun I bought early on and simply don't shoot much anymore. I have a feeling based on our previous range trips,,, I'm betting that he'll opt for Darcy as his gift. Aarond .

You're a good man, Aarond. I'm sure he'll shoot the snot out of Darcy, and that they'll both love it.

I bet he'll love it. Something like that would mean the world to me, if I were in his shoes.

I must say that is one impressive gesture. Gifting it to him as a graduation present instead of just giving it to him as charity allows him to retain his pride.

Sir - When this young Man's Child is handing this Ruger down to his Child this story will be told. And it will still bring smiles to faces and warm hearts. Here's to you!

What a thoughtful gift. My first handgun was a Ruger MKIII. I'm sure he will never forget your kind gesture. I know I wouldn't...

What a wonderful thing to do! He is going to cherish that gift the rest of his life and I have a feeling that many years down the road, he too will "pass it on" to some worthy individual. Plus . . you will get much enjoyment as well, not only knowing how you made his day but also watching him shoot it and shooting with him. Karma truly is a magnificent thing!

A Gifted gun has worth that far exceeds its actual value, its special. It is quite a huge gesture imho.

You are both a gentleman and a good friend. I went to a gun show here in town last weekend. I traded a S&W 4506 that I bought for $400.00 in 1998 for a Ruger MK!!, target, SS, bull barrel. The guy gave me the Ruger and $175.00 cash for my pistol. The Ruger was broken down, guy says "pain in the ass to clean" and went back together fine. I have a buckmark and a MKIII, SS, hunter so I gave it to my brother-in-law. He has lots of guns but no .22 - he likes it.
