My first Hi Power

I rec'd my first Hi Power today. It is a 1988 model in 9mm. It did not have the box or paperwork and only one magazine. Thats the down side but the up side is that it is in very good condition. The bluing shows wear only on the sharpest of edges and I can find only one nick on the grips. This thing points great and I hope it shoots as good as it points. Let me know what you think about it. Don't know why it took me so long to buy one and I don't think it will be my last one!

Yes I shoot it. I picked it up from a guy a few years back for a great price. It does not have a box or manual and only one original mag buit its a great gun. It does not get shot as much as my other Hi Powers but it still gets shot.

These get shot a lot more than the pre-T.

WV, nice Hi Powers. I have a "T" version on the radar. I will try to buy it at the end of the month. Wish me luck!

Yeah the T's command a high price and they are usually worth it. The key is not to over pay for any Hi power. Ts are only worth the extra coin if you are looking for a collector piece and they need to be unshot or LNIB with everything or you are over paying. IMHO

I have had a lot of Hi powers move in and out of the collection. I am still looking for a unmolested alloy framed gun. I have a family member who has a nice T series which eventually will be part of my collection but there is no rush.

If I found a T for the right price I would buy it but I personally will not pay what most people ask.....

I am sending the Practical off to Don Williams at Action Works one of these days. I will get it customized into a one of a kind gun built for me. I would rather pay for that then a collector piece. YMMV

I Agree

I agree with what others have said here. Your's is a very clean and well-cared for pistol showing just a bit of normal holster wear. My Hi-Power needed some judicious polishing of the feed ramp to insure 100% reliability with hollow-points. I also get a bit of hammer bite which I have not yet addressed.

The HP is not the most accurate pistol in my safe but I can shoot minute-of-torso with it all day. It is one of my carry guns.

HPs are great pistols and magazines are readily available.

Had one, pre-Vietnam tour, loved it, sold it, and have never quit kicking myself for having done so...you're gonna love it...are there more accurate 9mm's...yep...prettier...nope...it is and will always be...a classic. And it's the only double stack pistol, of any caliber, that felt "right" in my hands....a good friend was awarded the Air Force Cross for his use of one after being shot down in lV Corps, RVN, circa 1969...he got more of the BG's with that pistol, than he did with the air strike he was directing....hang on to yours, you'll regret it forever if you part with it. federali, I hope I am as accurate with it as you. I am sure of one thing, it won't be the guns fault if I am not.

Congrats!

I simply never tire of seeing the legendary JMB's Browning Hi Power! Some "non-gun" friends of mine (which are few and far between, in fact, I will call them more of acquaintances) scoff at me when I look at a Hi Power, 1911 or other guns of the late great Mr. Browning's and equate their respective beauty as a work art to be appreciated on the same scale as a Mozart musical piece, a Picaso painting etc...Just gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous design engineering--RIP JMB .

Great addition to your collection indeed!

Everone needs a dozen or two. Here is one of two MKIIs I had Don Williams lightly work over.
