6.5-250
I can't find any data on this cartridge. I'm looking for something with similar ballistics to the 6.5 rem mag without the belt, and want to stay with a short action. Any opinions? It's going to be used in a encore so pressures are also an issue.

6.5-250 would yield velocities somewhere in the vicinity of 2,500 fps for a 140 gr bullet, 2,700 fps for a 120 gr bullet, and 2,900 fps for a 100 gr bullet. That is nowhere neat a 6.5mm Rem Mag. If you want performance comparable to a 6.5mm Rem Mag out of a cartridge with a standard head size, you should take a look at 6.5-06 or 6.5-284. If you are looking for that performance out of a magnum head size, look at 6.5mm WSM. All of these are wildcat cartridges, BTW.

Looks like the .260AI is the best choice in a short action caliber.
The wsm's exceed the safe pressure limits of the encore. I've never dealt with a belted cartridge, I have been lead to believe that the belt hinders accuracy. In the encore I need all the advantage I can get. |
