Remington 760 ejection port cover...

I disassembled my friends 760, got her all cleaned up, and now that little piece of plastic is keeping me from getting it back together. How do I get the little booger back in place? Before I slide the bolt back in, while I'm sliding it in, or after? Hurts my ego that this little piece of plastic is wooping me!!!!!
