Stainless Steel Barrel...don't

For anyone starting to build an AR15 I would suggest you don't choose a stainless steel barrel, the look is terrible and stupid. Fortunately, I only paid $79 and while it appears to be totally functional it really looks awful. Guess I was overcome with the price.

Are you serious right now?

YOU don't like the looks of a SS barrel so you think everyone should avoid them??

That and some spray and bake and it'll be any color you want.

Looks awful how? If you just don't like the cosmetics, you could always Cerakote it I suppose. I mean, if you got a functional AR15 barrel of any type for $79, looks would be low on the list of my concerns.

You're absolutely right, the fashonable AR15 wouldn't be caught dead with a stainless barrel after labor day!

I thought you got the nitrided barrel... It was the same price.

I suggest you send the stainless back since you do not like it, and order the nitrided one... Or keep the stainless as a backup, though I doubt you would wear out the stainless barrel.

And there are placed you can send the barrel to be nitrided, but the cost is probably more than just ordering the other barrel from PSA.

But to be honest, I don't particularly like the look of a stainless barrel on an AR either. I can live with it though.

I'm also not a fan of the stainless look. I ordered a melonite/QPQ/nitride 16" gov't profile mid-length in .223 Wylde (1:7 twist) last week. Should arrive today!

LOVE my Odin Works stainless barrel on my 18" SPR build. Accurate, durable, awesome. And if I really didn't like the LOOKS of it, I would take it off, paint it, and move on...

The new generation of political correctness. "We don't like them, you shouldn't either". It was so much easier in 1927, you only had a few things to hate!

All AR's are ugly. All of them. Yours also, and his too. Hers is train-wreck ugly. They look like crap. All of them. My two are horrendous looking... maybe that is why I only have two.

Ptooey.

My addition to this thread is utterly and completely worthless... which makes it fit in this discussion perfectly.

Dumbest conversation of the day to this one. Job well done.

marine6680, I am reordering the nitrided barrel. My brain just saw the word stainless and I thought quality and not how it would look. When the rest of the gun is black, stainless is not a good look in my opinion.

I'm with the op on this one. What's the point of even owning anything remotely tactical if all the operators at the range don't look at you with envy.

Plus, it's well a known fact that snipers will be able to spot your stainless barrel from nearly a mile away making you a target.

I don't see a problem with the SS barrel. In fact, I just bought an upper for an EDC AR with a SS barrel.

Eh... I think the OP was just venting his frustration at getting a barrel he did not find aesthetically pleasing.

We all have our preferences.

I will gladly keep that information in file 13. Afterall, looks is much more important than durability, accuracy, and corrosion resistance.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't really care too much about how a component looks, as long as the results can be seen in the target group. One of my High Power service rifles was built with a green painted upper receiver, black lower receiver, black handle and buttstock, and Armalite green NM free float handguards, all with a Krieger stainless barrel...

That rifle is ugly, but it shoots like a dream.
