1911 gunsmith needed in Minnesota
Howdy, I just purchased a FUSION 10mm upper slide assembly. Now I need to have it fitted to my lower Kimber frame. The bullets won't feed into the barrel, just seem to go straight forward. Not up. Anyone know someone
 in MN who does good work on the 1911??

I can't help you with a smith in MN, you might check with the pistolsmith guild. I can say if you are not using a full ramped barrel you may forever have problems with the gun being reliable.
If your Kimber is a 45 frame the feed ramp will be cut wrong for the 40 or 10mm and will lead to nose dive jams. Regards Bob Hunter www.huntercustoms.com |

Barrel ramp overhangs frame ramp at lock up.
I have read that I can cut .020 to .030 past frame ramp on the barrel, and then re-blend the barrel. I also read that I don't want to blend into the throat area of the barrel or move it forward any. Does that sound correct?

If I'm reading correctly your problems stem from the fact that you have a 45 ramp in your frame and what you really need is a frame with a 40 ramp. Again if I'm reading correctly your barrel over hangs the feed ramp of your frame so you are wanting to remove material from the lower part of your barrel so it no longer overhangs the ramp. Please keep in mind that a problem you may create by doing this, you may be removing some of the much needed portion of the barrel that supports the web area of the case. If there's not enough barrel support of the case you will have case ruptures. If a case ruptures there's two things that will happen. 1. The magazine with remaining ammo will be blown out the bottom of the gun. 2. If the mag is not blown out of the gun the remaining ammo in the mag may be detonated by the hot gases from the case rupture. I highly suggest you have a competent pistol smith in your area help you with your project. When building guns to use full house 10mm ammo I prefer to use barrels that are full ramped.
