22 Hornet + Trail Boss
I recently tried loading 22 Hornet cases with Trail Boss. The result was very interesting. I didn't weigh the powder but used the Lee .7 CC dipper. I topped the loads with some 50 grain brand x hollow points. I don't have a chronograph, but my ears tell me they're sub sonic. My accuracy testing at 60 yd. was informal, but the groups looked good. I think they would make a great small game or low noise load.

Yes. I checked out the Hodgdon instructions. .7 CC is almost a 100% of useful capacity load as Lee gives the useful capacity as .79 CC.

I have made a few of those myself.
My Trailboss Hornet loads consist of 3.0 grains of Trailboss, with a 40 grain bullet of whatever brand happened to be on sale.............they make me giggle when I shoot them

Not Trail Boss but...
I have not tried because I have 20 pounds of 2400.
Over the last 45 years I have owned 6 .22 Hornets. All but my currant Ruger 77/22-Hornet were single shots. My 4227 loads shot 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. I finally tried 9.9 grains of 2400 and get groups that you cover with a dime. My "city load" 15 to 40 feet, with a 45 grain bullet is 5.6 grains of UNIQUE |
