picked up two flats of Federal 12g 1oz target loads. Now I understand why they're your version of crack/cocaine! What a difference compared to the still easy to shoot 1-1/8oz Federal target loads.

I'm a convert!!

Watch it, Slugo. Oneounce is way past one ounce loads. He shoots 7/8 ouncers and has been messing with 3/4.

Oneounce is just cutting down on his shot usage....make his reloading buck go a little further ...and so are a lot of guys these days, especially for practice....( and reducing recoil another 20% or so )....it makes sense...

Personally in a 12ga ...I still reload a 1oz shell at 1225 fps...as my do everything shell...and only with 1 oz of 8's ....for skeet, trap and sporting clays / but I shoot a lot more 20ga and 28ga these days ...and I just don't fool with reducing my 12ga load...when I have so many other nice guns to shoot in 20ga and 28ga...

( after you shoot a box of those Federals...there will be an interesting smell in the area....kind of like moldy sweat socks...). I don't know what kind of powder they use in those shells...but I can tell the minute someone is shooting that stuff near me....

I am another fan of light loads. I shoot everything with a 7/8 oz load of 8.5 shot about 1225 fps.

Try it, you will like it.

BJP, I've shot Federals 90% of the time since 1992, the first time I shot at a clay bird. Federal Papers had the greatest smell one could imagine...

Hey Slugo. I live in Bethlehem and primarily shoot at Rural Sportsmen (Skeet, Trap, and Wobble) or Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays. Both are just west of Allentown off 78.

Would gladly do shoot some clays with you. I haven't been to his new house yet, but my brother just moved to somewhere around Mechanicsburg.

Besides cost, I am also lowering my charge to 3/4 (NOT for registered sporting clays - that's still 1oz or 1-1/8) jut to see how they work for fun shooting on the local 5-stand
I have torn cartilage in my shooting shoulder and I am trying to delay the surgery as long as possible - I only need a few punches to move from B to A -

In fact this is a new 3/4 oz recipe using the new CB 3/4oz 12 gauge wads and I have loaded a few flats but haven't tried them yet - running about 1250 and 6300 psi with Red Dot, they SHOULD be soft

Those Federals ARE nice and do a great job - it kinda irks me, though, because wally world was selling the 1oz versions for 4.97/box for the longest time with the 1-1/8 oz versions going for 5.97/box - THEN they went and made them both 5.97

So NOW, I watch Cabela's because they sell Gun Clubs, which reload great, for 62/flat with free shipping which is cheaper than wally world plus tax

It seems the days of $30/flat RIOS and Estates are long gone, so I will buy whatever is cheaper - they all do a better job than I can

Yep. +1 and all that. I took the one ounce route about a year ago when my reloading picked up steam. Saving that 1/8 oz. each time that I pull the handle on the MEC 9000 stretches those bags of shot a bit. The shells are a pleasure to shoot.
I will try some 7/8 ths loads shortly. Gotta get proper wads.

I used a 1 oz load all during my youth. I went thur countless cases of Alcan 1 oz 6's and 7.5 rabbit and dove hunting and never felt under gunned.

I reloaded the 7/8 oz. 12 gauge for sporting clays & could not tell any difference in performance, only in recoil. They broke birds just as well as heavier loads.

The last 4 years I have gone to the 28 gauge entirely. That is a 3/4 oz. load & it still performs well. I never could find a reload for the 3/4 oz. 12 that did not leave a lot of unburned powder in the gun.

+1 on the 1 oz. loads. I shoot 1 oz. of #8 shot running about 1200 fps. I shot 150 of 'em the other day with no fatigue. If I had more with me I would have kept going.
