Tell me about these optics for my AR.
http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetac...d+Mount+Combos
I'm looking for one with some magnification as my eyes aren't that great. I won't be using any nightvision equipment if that matters. I'm leaning toward something from Aimpoint since I hear the batteries last & it's durable. I glanced at the Trijicon's but their out of my budget. It will go on an 5.56 AR with a 16" barrell & 1/7 twist. Thanks for the advice.

do any of the Aimpoints offer magnification?
...without a magnifier that costs as much as the original optic anyway? no night vision and dont want to spend $700+? i'd go with the ML3(no magnification though). get the cantilever mount if you think you may add a magnifier later....or it just looks cooler(i think so). http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetac...tail.bok?no=20 |

btw-i know you mentioned being out of your budget, but if you really want some magnification i'd take a long look at the Trijicon TR21,with the SPR-E mount(entended eye relief mount).
love mine. |

nope, thats just a magnifier that mounts behind another red dot sight that you'd need.
it pivots off to the side when you're not using it. check out the video presentation(actually a slide show). |

a simple red dot would be pretty effective for that range(100-150 yards) or more. again though,if you want some magnification i would consider this deal... http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetac...ail.bok?no=140 its basically like a red dot at 1.25x with the ability to go up to as much as 4x if needed. i went with the amber model. |

the Aimpoint ML3 should be just fine for that,at 300-500 feet....
now yards/meters might be a little tougher. |

Does this optic have a zoom ability? Would I need to buy an additional part?

nope.
yup. 3x magnifier, like with the Aimpoint. if you dont want to spend more than $500 or so and need Magnification... you might want to look at some low magnification Burris scopes,or maybe the Millet? you can get some with illuminated ret's and with a low end of arround 1.25x....maybe for what you're wanting to spend. |

The Millett DMS-1 1-4x might fit the bill: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...660&t=11082005
