Newbie Muzzleloader Questions
I'm not going the cowboy route here. I just purchased a muzzleloading barrel for my Mossberg 500 12 gauge. Specifically, it's a 24" Conversion Barrel w/ Fiber Optic Rifle Sights, 50 cal. Bore, Blue.
I'm planning to use this for my first white tail season in Iowa in Mid October. What I do know is that it uses #209 primer caps and (obviously ) 50 cal bullets. What I don't know is what I should purchase for ammunition, powder, etc. My goal is simplicity and ease of use. I'd also like to find an online source for these supplies. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

mossberg muzzleloader
I too am about to buy the mossberg muzzleloader conversion barrel for my model 500. I know your posting is old (2002), but how did you like it and what powder and ammo did you go with. I too am looking for cost savings and simplicity but also an avenue into muzzleloading...

Get a copy of Lyman's Blackpowder Handbook. This has information to answer most, if not all, of your basic questions. Read it. Then browse through the stores and catalogs for a muzzle loader you like. Read the book again. Buy the gun you like and that fits you. Read the book.
Now, you're ready. Pops
