H-6 crimp?
Just loaded some lite 44 loads 240gr. lswc's with 7 grs. of H-6 with a lite crimp, looks like I have quite a bit of unburnt powder.
Was wondering if I need a heavyer crimp or up my powder charge, this is my 1st time loading with this powder. Or do I need to use a faster burning powder for my lite loads? |

HS-6 is fine for that use but I would use load data from your manual vs. data from the Hodgdon website. You need a good roll crimp as well as a magnum primer because HS-6 is a fairly dense spherical where just about any load manual will recommend a magnum primer, even for the lighter loads. You might get by with a Win. WLP primer, but your best bet would be to use a magnum primer.

I firmly crimp virtually all my 'revolver' ammo (I actually vary crimp and test).

More crimp, magnum primers for HS-6 in revolvers.
You don't need a faster powder, but faster powders will burn more completely and keep your gun cleaner. |
