Download it

Fill it out

Follow the instructions

I got my C&R license a few years ago and have never used it.

I probably am getting really close to having to renew it.

I took it to a number of gun shows early on but never found anything I had to have for the right price.

The few times I tried buying something online the seller didn't understand he could ship directly to me and I lost out.

My FFL charges about $80 to transfer private sales. He is $5 cheaper than anyone else within driving distance. I ain't having good luck with my C&R so far.

But, I'll renew it, and try again.

The only part that keeps me up at night is if I use the C&R and log each purchase and sale in my collection, I now have a record that will eventually be in the hands of the BATF (when I die or turn in my license and records).

Doesn't keep me up for long... just sayin'.

That's because they were right, and they can't ship directly to you in California. There are a few more exceptions, but C&R works great in most other states.

Here, I'll help you sleep better. You keep the records for as long as you have the C&R. If you decide to stop, and not renew your C&R, you can dispose of the records any way you wish. They don't get "turned in".

I was in California and so was the seller. I already knew about state lines issues. But thanks, I should have pointed that out before.

I am pretty sure (doubting myself just a little now) that C&R records are supposed to get handed over. If you are correct, I'm going to be happy to drop that one off my "worry list".

And just to be clear, I'm not trying to be a smart-a$$ over this, I re-read my posts and they could have been written better.

Q14: Are licensed collectors required to turn in their acquisition/disposition records to ATF if their collector’s license is not renewed or they discontinue their collecting activity?
No. The GCA requires the delivery of required records to the Government within 30 days after a firearm “business” is discontinued. A license as a collector of curios or relics does not authorize any business with respect to firearms. This is in contrast to firearm importers, manufacturers, and dealers who are licensed to engage in a firearms business. Therefore, the records required to be kept by licensed collectors under the law and regulations are not business records and are not required to be turned in to ATF when collectors’ licenses are not renewed or collecting activity under such licenses is discontinued.
