C+R License helps out.

I splurged and bought a mate for my Stevens 311A 20 ga. It will now have a 12 gauge brother. Always liked that little 20, it was my first firearm. Well I spotted a JC Higgins / Savage 311 12 ga on Gunbroker for 199 in nice shape and won the auction.
After I won I thought hmmm JC Higgins was 1950s for Sears. I wonder. Sure enough it was made in 58 according to the date code. So the seller is shipping it direct to me, saving me xfer fees and registration. I'll just send a copy with my check.
My C+R saved me 20 bucks or so on this deal, check those date codes!!
