.40 s&w question
Hiya all,
I'm about to start reloading .40 S&W. I went to my local gunshop & picked up 200- 165 gr. TC winchester projectiles. I'll be using power pistol & cci #500 primers. I went home , looked in my hornady book but it only lists 155, & 180 gr. projectiles (the sizes that hornady makes). My Lee die instruction sheet has the same info.. Does anyone know where the reloading data for this setup might be found? |

I am pretty sure you will that information in the Lyman Book (49th) edition. I am at work right now and dont have it in front of me but I specifically remember seeing Power Pistol in their data.

The Alliant site
is here http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/default.aspx .
It has data for Power Pistol with Speer 165 grain Gold Dot HPs. Should put you in the ball park, but remember, they are different bullets, probably with different lenghts, so using the COL in the data for your Winchester bullets might not give the same results, including pressures. Start low and work up. SL1 |

Does anyone out there know what the length of a speer 165gr .40 projectile is? |

flyinpolack:
It's not just the length that can affect your load: There's also the bullet ogive profile. That will also affect your intended seating depth. The speer 165 or your TC winchester could have the ogive further forward, causing it to bash against the rifling rather than cleanly headspacing on the mouth. A quick email to Alliant will get you exactly what you're looking for. |
