New to the forum here which is, BTW, great.

Today I bought a S & W Model 10 for $100. SN # is 3K25XXX. Any info on it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance!

The serial number indicates the gun dates from 1971, but Model 10s were numbered in the "C" or "D" series before S&W switched to the current 3-letter prefix. Swing the cylinder out and look at what model number is stamped in the frame cutout - chances are you have a gun that's worth a good bit more than an M10.

Help with S&W Model 13-1 markings

Can you guys please give me an education as to the history of this gun based on its markings?

.357 Heavy Barrel Blued with square butt frame.

There is a E19 stamped above Model 13-1 when you open the cylinder.

There are several markings on the frame:

64567 stamped
E3
C7
E19
Serial number starts D795xxx

On the opposite side is stamped a capital I in a circle and a capital N in a square.

Thanks in advance for any help!

The model 13 is the 357 magnum version of the 38 special model 10.
Production started in 1974 and ended in 1999.

Thanks very much for the serial number info. Any idea what the E19 is?
How do you tell what frame it is?

It and the others are assembly numbers.
It's a K (medium) frame.

I stand corrected. Many thanks. Anyhow, the SN # is 3K25XXX and it is a S & W Model 15-3. Once again, thanks.

C242xxx = 1953.
If it's a 38 special and steel frame = 38 Military & Police (pre model 10).
If it's a 38 special and aluminum frame = 38 Military & Police Airweight (pre model 12).
If 38 S&W = 38/200 Military & Police (pre model 11).
If it's a 22 = .22 Military & Police (pre model 45).

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson does mention the 586-7 in 7 shot being offered in a special run of 300 guns in 2004 but does not mention who the run was for or any other info. S&W's Performance Center also offered a comped version in 2000.

I really can't offer a value. With so few made, it's really more of a modern collecter market. Your best bet would be to ask over on the S&W forum.
