Sling for 870 - mag cap or barrel clamp?

I'd like get a sling for my "new" 870 Express Magnum.
I have seen some that mount to a replacement magazine cap and some that are made to mount to a barrel clamp for an extended magazine.
I have also seen some front mounts that are made to put the sling on the right or left. What's up with that?
Please give me some opinions on what works and what does not.

I've got the mag cap swivel type on my old "deerbuster" 870. Works great, simple, quiet, durable. I have no need for, or experience with the other types.

I have both types for my 870. The model I have on now is the Scattergun model. I recommend it for fighting purposes. I found that you have to drill the stock to make it sit right with the left mounted sling.
I also have one that screws into the mag cap. That one is great for the field.
I don't like the one that mounts to the barrel, did not seem sturdy enough.

Where is the best place to buy the type that goes under the cap? I think that I want the type that goes under the cap since I plan on adding an extension and I could still use the same one since it would just go between the extension and the mag tube.

FYI: If you have a synthetic stock on your 870, mounting a swivel stud in the stock will void the warranty.

OK. I'll bite. Why would my warranty be void for putting a sling on a synthetic stock?
Mine is "hardwood" but I am still curious.

I had the same question and am not sure of the answer. When I wanted to put a sling on my 870 synthetic stock, I read an FAQ on the Remington web site that said the warranty on the stock is voided if you drill a hole in it for a stud. So I bought a sling that had a traditional swivel on the forearm end (I used the mag mounted stud), but lassoed the grip on the butt end (no stud needed). It works pretty well.
