Wilson Question
Hello to all. Been lurking a while, this looks like an outstanding board and a knowledgeable brain trust
My Wilson Question: I had my 2 & 3/4 870 sent in for the "Remington Steal" package w/a few extras. they said that it is now converted to 3' inch. Does this mean I can safely use 3 inch shotshells? |

No, but 3 1/2" 10ga turkey loads will now run great in it.
Yes, 3 inches is 3 inches even in Arkansas where Wilson is at. 3" seems to be a waste of mag space and shoulder life though. Welcome to TFL

Yes, assuming a 3" chamber.
IIRC, one has to do something with the ejector to convert a 2 3/4" 870 to a 3" 870. And, the chamber has to be capable of accomodating a 3" shell. The bbl should say if it is a 3" bbl. HTH.... |

It's a 2 3/4 barrel, I thought it was converted (reamed out) by Wilson?? I was specifically told this by someone on another board, but don't want to risk an accident.

I would suggest that you contact Wilson to find out what they did.
If they said they converted it, then they would have had to lengthen that chamber. It sure would have been nice if they had marked the barrel to indicate what they'd done. Call Wilson. Mike PS. I am not too sure why you even want to shoot 3"ers. I do not hunt and I have never seen the need for them. 3.5"s are a marketing ploy as far as I'm concerned.

My 870 Wingmaster came with a 3" chambered Full choke barrel. The barrel I use for slugs and buckshot is 2 3/4" and that's plenty. 3' may be necessary for ducks at altitude, but not for a BG across the room.
