243 Win. amount of powder charge
I am about to reload 243 Win for the first time with Hornady 100 grain BTSP. I want to use one of the powders that I already have - H4350, H414, BLC-2 or IMR4064. Any suggestions on which one to use and how many grains. for heavier bullets Hogdon and Lee charts show good performance with H4350 and H414, but want to get some ideas from anybody who has already tried any of these powders as which one they prefer and how many grains do they load it with.
Thanks in advance for your advice. |

243 load
D S 270,
I've never loaded any H-4350, but I've loaded alot of IMR 4350 & they are only 1 step diff in burn rate so very close, MAKE SURE YOU WORK UP SLOW< But I use, Win, cases, Win,wlr, Primers, Speer 100 gr spbt, 42 gr, Imr 4350,, Shooting out of a weatherbee vangard with a 1 to 10 with a 6x24x42 Nikon. and with a good bench rest and a calm day, you can shoot 5 shot groups, that all will touch at 100yd, I can not do this all the time if I could I'd be shooting for a living but you can get some very good groups with this load, I take very special care in case peperation, I clean with carb cleaner, deprime clean again, then wash dry and tumble, Blow out with, 180 lb air gun ,I only shoot the brass a max of 4 time and then distroy, I load for my Grandkids and as always, SAFTY FIRST, But this load works for me and them, Good luck, & GOD BLESS Zeek5793 |

Deerslayer, here is more data than you probably want from the good folks at Hodgdon. They are now the licensed manufacturers of IMR, Hodgdon, and Winchester powders. You will have to agree to the terms of use first but no other info is required for any search I've done.
http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp Probably want to bookmark this one. As new bullets come out the data for them will appear here first before getting into print. |

Just Happen To Keep A Hornady Manual At Work
Per Hornady manual sixth edition...H4350 37.4 gr to 40.8 gr 2700 to 2900 fps respectively........IMR4064 29.4gr to 34.2 gr 2500 to 2800 fps respectively.
h414 and BLC-2 not listed with that bullet. |
