quickload data
I developed a reduced load for my 223 that should be pretty close to hornet velocities. I am using LC brass, CCI 400 primers, 10.5 grains Blue Dot, and a 45 grain Sierra Varminter soft point.
I developed this load very carefully and I have found it very pleasant to shoot. I can't believe how quiet and accurate it is. I don't have a chrono, but I am estimating the velocity to be around 2700fps. I didn't pull this load out of thin air. Here are some of my sources. http://www.jamescalhoon.com/bee.php http://www.jamescalhoon.com/tobee2.php http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=446724 http://www.reloadingroom.com/index_files/Blue%20Dot.htm Would there be some kind person out there that would consider running this data in the quickload software program. I'd be curious to see what the estimate pressure level and curve looks like. My rifle has a 20" barrel. |

That QuickLoad software is absolutely amazing to me. I hadn't really looked into it until last week and it just looked so cool. But at $150, I might need to wait a couple months until I can justify buying yet another reloading tool. But once winter sets in and it's truly reloading season, then I really need to get a copy.

Quickload is a great reference/tool. I built up a 45acp rifle on a Turkish Mauser receiver. I have been able to load 300gr bullets so that they are just subsonic AND have very low residual pressure in the barrel when the bullet clears the muzzle ... all this info is at your fingertips so you can really get where you want to go ... and you don't have to try eight different powders to find that one that works. You do need to empirically tune the loads, but that is just the last little bit of tuning. I haven't had the opportunity to try these out on hogs yet, but they make a wicked "bunker buster" on prairie dog mounds! That dirt is instantly transformed from cover to concealment so you can get COM hits when all you see is forehead ... and they are QUIIIIIIIIET
