Original Publisher?

I have heard somewhere that SWAT magazine was originally owned by Larry Flynt, the owner of Hustler magazine. Does anyone know if that was true or not? Sounds kinda weird to me.

Half true.
It was originally published by trainer, Chuck Taylor. Shortly after launch it was purchased by a full time publisher, Everett Moore. Around 1989, it was bought by Larry Flynt.

We purchased it from LFP in July 2001 after they announced its discontinuation.

Hey Rich -
Speaking of the old days of S.W.A.T., I recently bought the 25th anniversary issue at Books-A-Million (I subscribe but my copy must have gotten lost in the mail). When it rang up, the check-out computer said "Survival Weapons an" (I guess they ran out of room, LOL). I saw in the anniversary story that "Survival" W.A.T. used to be the name, but I forget how many years ago it was changed. B.A.M. still hasn't gotten the word!

Wow, that'd be a whole lot of years that they've been holding as that. To my knowledge the BiPad (Bar Code) has remained the same thruout the title's history. If you change that you have to actually re-sign all of your retail outlets. So, it may be that BAM took the title on in the days it was known as Survival Weapons And Tactics.
