New to loading 223
I was loading some 223 last night. I am using the Hor. Varget power. The lee book calls for 24.7 gr. I was loading 25 gr. question is it suppose to fill the 223 case all the way up to the neck?

Do a load workup.
Do not exceed max loads. Jimro

You want a powder load that almost fills the case so that you don't double charge.

25 grains of varget will not fill the case.
Not certain what prompted your question but keep in mind that filling the case is not a goal when reloading, getting a safe load is. What bullet make and weight are you using? As stated earlier in the thread, if 24.7 is listed as the max load you should not load 25 grains to start, you should do 24.7 less 10% and work up. If 25 grains is listed as the starting load then you are probably OK. |

But as the others mentioned, use reputable data for your bullet and check multiple sources. Too often you find the starting load in one manual exceeds the max load in another manual.
