How easy is it to dehorn your own pistol? What is required?
Also, assuming the pistol is stainless steele, what needs to be done to "restore" the finish afterwards? Thanks, Erik |

I've done several by just breaking the sharp edges with a fine file and then rounding these edges a bit with a "rust eraser" (a block of rubber with abrasive grit embedded in it.
To really "refinish" most stainless pistols, you would need to mask off the flats and bead blast the "edges". As a practical matter, one can normally get the pistol looking okay with just a bit of scotchbrite...as long as you don't get too carried away on the bead blasted portions. Rosco |

"Dehorning" usually refers to removing or cutting down the hammer spur of a revolver. It can be done with a grinding wheel. If you are referring to simply removing sharp edges, Rosco's advice is good. A full "melt down" is more extreme, but basically the same thing. (FWIW, I think a "melt down" looks like %^&*. And you can quote me.)
