Probably a dumb question about Weaver and Picitinny optics
I don't know why I can't seem to understand this, but please correct me if I'm wrong.
Weaver rails and their associated optics will fit on their respective rails and may fit on Picitinny rail systems. However, the reverse may not be true due to the way the "rails" are spaced on the a picitinny rail are more uniform(?) than that of the weaver system and may not be able to properly lock down. Am I wrong about this? The reason I ask is because the optic I'm looking at requires a weaver rail system but my rifle uses the picitinny rail system. I don't want to waste money on an optic I cannot use or will have problems of coming loose or what have you if I were to install it on a different style of rail. |

There are odd exceptions, but generally, 1913 (“Picatinny”) accessories, due to their larger grove dimensions will not fit Weaver system rails. Accessories that are designed for the Weaver rail system will usually fit on a Picatinny rail system however. So... you are correct.
