And it all depends on what you wear, and how much you care if people know you have it.

ok, thanks.....( my guess was correct...) ....

Is it too big ....Its not my preference, but that's up to you ..../my primary carry gun is a full sized 1911 - a 5" gun ..in .45acp...

Carrying a gun is about finding the right holster and belt primarily ( and everyone should carry the gun they shoot the best )...and everyone should shoot and carry whatever they want.

yes, too big unless you plan on carrying in a back pack. my older brother carries an XDM40 and I think he's nuts.

grammar

It really falls into the "service" size. Probably could do it with the proper attire and a shoulder holster or something. Not really practical in my opinion. Great home defense or "truck" gun - too big to pack all the time. I do love 13 rounds of 45 whoop ass!

I'm sure it is possible and I'm sure someone will come along and tell us how they do it every day.

Just not for me.

The answer lies in method, clothing, holster, belt, body, habits (don't touch the lump), etc. With the right system, you can carry a LOT of gun. One of my regulars is about 5'8", 135, and carries an M&P 40 full size with a Streamlight TLR-1, and a Trijicon RMR on it as his CCW. He also has a very narrow waist, and habitually wears a jacket over his sweatshirt over his firearm. In Oregon, that's normal.

Overall the long haul, yes, I think you will find it too big for EDC. I'm not saying that you can't and won't carry it, but I think that sooner or later you will migrate to a smaller gun that really can be a EDC piece.

If you want it, it can be carried easily with a proper gun belt, holster and covering garment. I cannot express just how vital a good gun belt is with a gun this size.

Also know that it will be difficult to carry in summer months and much easier in the winter.

With a proper holster and belt there is almost no limit on what you can carry. I am only 5'10"/150 lbs. and I have carried 5" 1911s and N frame S&W revolvers for years. Forget about fashion. Wear loose clothes.

This is true to an extent in my experience. Been wearing a 5" 1911 with a good holster and belt since 1984 and got a good holster for the G21 and gave it a try for awhile. The 1911 is a huge difference from the G21, very thin and compact. The weight isn't the problem with a good belt and holster like you say, but that thick brick G21 doesn't get carried anymore. YMMV.
