Can anyone recommend a GOOD one if there is such a thing? I tried the blue light special thing, crashed my computer so I crashed the CD, tried Juno dear God that was a nightmare, now I have netzero, if I don't click on their dumb banners it disconnects me in three seconds, if I do click on their banners I get an error telling me there is a bug in Netscape and that they are working on a fix, then I am disconnected. So just wondering if there are any other free internet providers out there that actually work and do not mess the computer or my brain up .

I use both Net Zero and FreeInternet... FreeInternet is Ok but you have to wait like 5 min before you can do anything and the mail server is down about 8 out of 7 days a week. Net Zero for the most part works ok with Microcrap stuff but has a lot of bugs with Netscrape.

So the short version:
FreeInternet -- Slow to start, Email sucks

Net Zero -- No Netscape, somewhat slow

Thats my 2.3495834 cents

Free Internet access actually gets paid for... By advertisers.

Its a pain in the arse and you will not be happy with it. Go ahead and pay the 10-20 a month for a full service contract through a reliable local ISP. You'll be much happier.

What about the phone bill, Don't you have to pay long distance.

Miss D,

I respectfully suggest that with "free" internet services, as with almost all things, you get what you pay for.

I kind of thought there was a catch . Actually the blue light worked really good, it was fast, didn't have to click on the banners, and dialed up quickly with the modem on mute (a great feature for the early a.m. dial ups ) but after two weeks it screwed the entire computer up.

Ok so how about this question, what are some names of ISPs that have a cheaper monthly fee? At the present, I can't afford the $19.95 a mo but I could swear I heard someone say they only pay $9.95 a month for thier ISP, don't remember who it was or what provider. If anyone has any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey MissD--

Looked in your profile and saw you're in IL.

If you're in the Chicago/suburbs area, you could probably use 'Everyone's Internet' (www.ev1.net)

They started in Houston and are supposedly the fastest growing ISP in the country (I met one of their resellers the other day and he said they are signing up 7,000 new customers a month!) They are only $10.00 a month, and they have gotten rave reviews for service (you also get 300 megs of web space included!)

I'm not with them now, but I'm planning to switch over.

Hope this helps; weegee

Thanks weegee! I will defintley check that out, 10$ sounds good to me. I just hope it's not one of those places that makes you pay upfront for a year, I had Sisna for awhile, had to pay for one year and I was not happy with the service at all! They kept cutting me off and sometimes I couldn't dial into their server. I'll check out this place though sounds good, thank you!

Hey MissD--You're welcome; I hope that service is available and works out for you!

They don't make you pay for a year, it's month to month--but I think they do charge a one-time $30.00 setup fee (not too bad, esp. with the 300m of space.)

best, weegee

Sandy,
I use frewwweb.com. There are no pop-ups. The requirement is that you have to use their homepage (which is snap.com, looks like MSN) as you start page. A couple of months ago, they were having problems with their password verification software, so you sometimes couldn't log on, but I haven't had a problem with it in a while. Works for me.

Oh, yeah, and don't use their e-mail, keep a web-based one if you have it.

I am using Freewwweb right now, it works fine. I changed my start page from their page to my bookmark page, with no problems. As far as I can tell, it is just like i'm paying for the service. It sometimes doesn't connect, then I will use juno or something else, but that is rarely.

Thanks Cindy &KJl, I don't mind using their homepage, I never look at the homepage anyways . How is the connection speed? I will check out that site today. My free month of AOHell is about to end and seeing that Netzero is annyoing I am going to have to experiment with others. I have email (like 5 of them already lol) so I won't use their email, thanks
