Would you take THIS shot??!!

Here's the scenario. Your buddy Wayne has nodded off in camp. You've just trudged five miles from a whitetail ground and come back empty handed. When you arrive in the clearing this shot presents itself.

Maybe the day's not going to be a complete washout. You could bag a canary!

You have your trusty 30.06 loaded with 160 Gn Nosler partitions. You're fifty yards out and your rifle is sighted in for one hundred. Should be a snap!

Would you take the shot??

No. Beyond the target is a concrete picnic table and a road. Besides, I've heard that Wayne's wife is high-maintenance.

I agree with rlong, the concrete table could possibly cause a ricochet, and hurt someone.

Does his hat have a desirable logo on it? If so, no. If not, can you make a clean kill on the bird?

Well given that the rifle is sighted in for 100 yards and this is a fifty yard shot you may have to actually aim a little low right. Put the crosshairs on the birds feet just so you make a nice clean kill.

Not bad. Okay, take a full breath...now let it out slowly as the crosshairs drop to the top of the hit's left ear...BOOOM!
Oh, uh...you meant the bird didn't you?

LOL

No way--just the shockwave of the bullet passing by Wayne's head would kill him.

Oh wait--we're talking about a 30-06, not a .45ACP... Nevermind.

You guys disgust me!? YOU CANNOT KILL A LITTLE YELLOW BIRD LIKE THAT!!! THATS HOMICIDE! plus it will wake up the neighboring campers.

Beside that shot will be a good reminder for him to pay you back the money he owes you

william tell shot eh?

At a minimum I would fire a warning shot to startle him awake - that'll teach him that the proper place for a nap in the woods is *on the ground*. With ants crawling on you.

Nope. Shooting song birds is illegal up here. It's very difficult to get the right sized picture of a canary for potoshopping, isn't it? Mosquitoes are that big up here.

If the rifle's first zero is 100, wouldn't aiming at the bird's feet put the bullet straight through your friend's forehead?

No way I'd take that shot with a 30.06! I don't care what the zero is set at, and thats how accidents happen! You shoot birds with a shotgun. I'd use a 12.ga 'cause Canary's are known for being tough. High brass #6's should do the trick.
