Sterling/Ithaca X-Caliber S/shot Pistol

Hello All,

Anybody have one of these pistols out there? Looking for some backround info on this gun. I believe Ithaca offered it for a few years but have been unable to get any info from them on it. Not sure if they bought out Sterling or just bought the rights for this gun only. Is anybody else making it now?

Appreciate any response.

Regards

Contender, the only information I can find on the Ithaca X-Caliber comes from the Blue Book of Gun Values - 22nd Edition, by S.P. Fjestad. Apparently only about 300 were produced, in .22 caliber, in 1988 and then production was ceased due to unsolvable manufacturing problems. It was also intended to be offered in .44 Rem. Mag. It had a unique dual firing pin arrangement to detonate either rimfire or centerfire cartridges. I'm unable to find anything about the connection to Sterling and I'm not aware of anyone attempting to currently manufacture this pistol. Hope this helps.

Thank You Steve,

That's far more info than I've been able to obtain on this reclusive pistol.

I wrote Ithaca a few times but they have changed hands so many times that the company there now has no connection to it.

I had an old copy of Dean Grennell's Pistol and Revolver handbook from about 1983 and it listed it as a Sterling X-Caliber. Then in a 1993 Gun Digest "Ithaca" appeared in the name hence I was assuming they bought the rights to it.

Thanks again for a few more pieces to the puzzle.

Regards, Ray

The 2001 Standard Catalog of Firearms mentions a Model X-Caliber SS switchbarrel pistol, no pictures. It's value is pretty small, starts at $200 NIB.
