Ditto on the poster who mentioned the 6mm Remington. My brother worked up a load years ago that I continue to load for him today.

I have an older Remington bull barrel 243, I've used a load loaded with IMR4831 for years to shoot nice small groups out of this rifle.

"If we see "no difference" today between H110 and W296 or HP38/W231 (since Hodgdon took over?), why should we suspect any difference between H4831 and IMR4831?"
I'm not sure if H4831 and IMR4831 share the same relationship as H110/W296 (made in the same factory) but I do know for sure that they have significantly different burning rates which is not and was never the case with H110 and W296. IMR4831 is substantially faster than H4831. The load data is different. Loading manuals issue specific warnings about mixing data for H and IMR 4831. Further, you can check with Hodgdon's website or call them. Load data for the two are different because the propellants are different, not merely to differentiate the two for marketing purposes. Changing the burning rates of any propellant in mid stream is product liability suicide because of all the existing data in use. That goes for any propellant including the "new" Unique and 2400. I just checked Hornady's site and picked data for the .30-06 with the 190 grain Hornady SPBT. The maximim charges are: H4831 61.0 grains IMR4831 55.0 grains. They do not do this just for SH**s and giggles. Then again, you could switch IMR4831 for H4831 in the above load just to test your theory. Just kidding!
