GP100 6" Owners 158GR XTP H110
I just loaded my 1st 357 mags today and shot with no issues, no bulging primers, no sticky shell ejects.
I started with 9MM in my shield with 4.1gr AA2 and Plated RN 115gr and I have a set load for myself with no issues. Then worked up to some 38 special with plated RN 158gr and 4.1gr Tightgroup and found a nice plinking load and set on them for my GP100. NOW into the MAG loading. Asking who has tested a load slightly higher then what I just did to see the max load before issues started with same pistol? I will be testing myself, just looking for a stopping point. Dam books (4 that I have) all show loads all over the place. I read the H110 does no like to be downloaded and works best at max or just under. My load as of today: GP100 6" 158gr XTP 15.5Gr H110 OAL 1.590" Med roll crimp CCI SPM I have no chrono to check speed but it felt perdy stout to me. Thnx in advance. DO |

Here's the chrono results: S&W 686 3" bbl: 1090 fps; 417 ft/lbs. S&W 686 4" bbl: 1155 fps; 468 ft/lbs. S&W 686 8.375" bbl: 1188 fps; 495 ft/lbs. H-110 is a slow, forgiving powder. By no means am I suggesting doing anything outside published data. I'm just saying that slow powders tend to allow for some. . . wiggle room.

For those select powders that carry "Do Not Reduce" warnings, I think it wise to use data provided by the powder manufacturer.
Hodgdon's load for the 158gr XTP and H110 is 15.0-16.7gr. They also call for a MAGNUM primer. I would use one for this powder.

Thanks guys.
I did use mag primers. I didnt bench when I tested, but off hand seemed real accurate. I will work up another 25 at 16.0gr and test that this week. I think that will be the top end for me. Like I said seemed like a nice stout load at 15.5gr. If all goes good I will end my 357 mag data sheet at that... with 158 XTP's and H110 at least...LOL NEXT....LOL DO |

I am loading for a 4" GP-100. I have loaded a bit more H110 in mine and exceeded 1,200 fps with no issues. Cases drop right out. However, at least in this shorter barrel, AA#9 works better. Think 1,300 with STD of 9.6. That's my go to. As always, work up slowly. FWIW, 158 Blazer JHP commercial goes 1,239 with STD of 14.6 from mine.

I've been shooting 158 grain Montana gold jhp's with 15 grains of H110 and Winchester small pistol magnum primers in my GP100 6" for a while now with no problems. Average FPS has been around 1263.
